Synopsis (translation): Modern Malaysian Art From The Pioneering Era to The Pluralist Era (1930s-1990s) was written to expose readers to the history of the nation's art scene from the 1930s to the 1990s.  Besides serving as documentation on the development of Malaysian Art, this book also emphasises the importance of art education among youth and the community. Art is a part of the nation's culture, thus the appreciation of artworks enables an individual to recognise certain values in the community that he or she originates from.

This book also uncovers the development of modern Malaysian art by focusing on the styles of certain groups, movements and particular artists. This is done by looking at its development from one decade to the next through chapters designed to take into account the changing times and the painters. This approach is hoped to enhance the reader's art appreciation process and involves aspects of form, meaning and context in producing a work of art.
