Petronas unveils Cerita Kita murals by MARA art students for National Day, Malaysia Day celebrations

Petronas has unveiled a series of murals in conjunction with the upcoming National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations on August 31 and September 16, respectively. The murals are a collaboration between the national petroleum company and students from Universiti Teknologi MARA’s Faculty of Art and Design.

According to Petronas, the murals represent a reflection of Malaysia’s pride and joy from places of attractions to traditions that make Malaysia special. This art initiative is part of Petronas’ campaign, Cerita Kita, which aims to capture the beauty of moments and places in Malaysia.

“We have engaged local students to participate in our campaign as part of our effort to showcase local talent as well as to encourage youths to demonstrate their pride for the country through their works of art. We hope to expand this initiative to more stations in the future to continue promoting the local art scene,” said Petronas managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Sri Syed Zainal Abidin.

A total of seven murals are featured at Petronas stations nationwide, including the one pictured above, which is located at Solaris Serdang, Selangor, titled Bound by Traditions. This mural showcases the pasar malam, or night market, which is said to depict a tradition which is held on dearly to in the midst of progress and modernity.

The other six murals are each located at a Petronas station as well. The mural at the Tapah, Perak station is titled Fun in the Nature, and portrays Lata Kinjang, one of Malaysia’s highest waterfalls. Further north in the Pearl of the Orient, the station in Batu Feringghi, Penang hosts the mural aptly titled United by Food, depicting the nation’s love for local cuisine.

Next up is The City of Life showcased at The Place in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, which portrays the convenience of staying digitally connected juxtaposed with quality time spent socialising in real life over food and drink. Meanwhile, at the Petronas station in MITC, Melaka, the state’s heritage and unique architecture is showcased in Where Multi-cultural Heritage Resides.

Two more round up the group of seven, and these are Being One with Nature which is located in Peramu 2, Pahang, depicting the rainforests of Taman Negara, and Of Sun, Sea, Forest and Mountains located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, which features the iconic Mount Kinabalu.

The murals will be joined by a series of stories which Petronas is curating, revolving around unsung heroes including members of its staff, dealers, partners and customers. These will be made available on Petronas Brands’ social media platforms, and members of the public may also share their own stories of patriotism, and tag them with the #ceritakita hashtag.
